Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has recently celebrated its 13th anniversary, but the title is still going strong, even after many years of release, thanks to the modding community.

It has now been noted that Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has over 2 billion mod downloads even after a decade since its release, and it is still going strong.

Why it matters: While the modders initially started fixing the game’s bugs, it grew massively over the years.

According to NexusMod, one of the biggest sites for game mods reflects that Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has surpassed the 2 billion mod downloads mark. 

The title currently sits on the second-ranked list, and what is more surprising is that the top spot is also taken by the game’s Special Edition, which was released five years after the original release and had many fixes and graphic updates over the base game.

The special edition has over 6.2 billion downloads on the site, and if you combine both the numbers, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim has over 8 billion mod downloads in over a decade, which is almost equal to the number of humans on Earth.

While most of the players and modders have already moved to the special edition of the game as it offers a better experience than the base title, it is surprising to see The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim still going strong.

It was recently reported that the game has sold over 60 million units, becoming the 7th most-selling title ever. 2025 is another exciting year for the franchise, as we might get to hear more about The Elder Scrolls 6.
