With the launch of the new XX60 series from Nvidia, you no longer need to spend more than $500 to get your hands on the current Ada Lovelace architecture. Nvidia has just announced that it will launch the GeForce RTX 4060 for just $299.
The GeForce RTX 4060, at just $300, is a 1080p graphics card and will compete against its predecessor, the GeForce RTX 3060, and even the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. In terms of specs, the GeForce RTX 4060 will be running at 1.8 GHz base with 3,072 CUDA cores.
According to the slides shared by Nvidia, the GeForce RTX 4060 will come equipped with 8 GB of VRAM on a 128-bit bus, giving it a maximum bandwidth of 272 GB/s at 115W. This should lead to a roughly 20% performance increase.
However, the Ada Lovelace line-up has the edge with DLSS3 features. Using DLSS 3 Frame Generation, the new XX60 series card is 70% faster, beating both the GeForce RTX 3060 and 3060 Ti.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will be the first variant from the XX60 to launch next month. On the other hand, users waiting to invest in the standard GeForce RTX 4060 will have to wait till July.
Currently, two of the most popular graphics card on Steam hardware survey are the xx60 series cards from Nvidia, and nearly 70% of users on Steam are still running games at 1080p. Considering that, the 128-bit bus might be suitable for this graphics card.
AMD also seems to be holding back on the launch of its Radeon RX 7600, RX 7700, and RX 7800 graphics card till June. Maybe the Red team is waiting for the right time to launch their line-up with a competitive price compared to Nvidia.
Whatever the case, the price of these budget mid-range cards will decide how well they do in the market. The GeForce RTX 3070 can now be found at a discounted price of $400 for a limited time.
The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti will also be the only variant to get the Founders Edition card from Nvidia, sharing a similar design to the GeForce RTX 4070 Founders Edition, with a silver frame instead of grey. As such, the GeForce RTX 4060 will only be available through AIB partners.
