Gears Is Going Back To Basics For Multiplayer As Well!

Story Highlight
  • Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer will not include a Battle Pass.
  • The Coalition also promises that almost all unlocks will be available through just playing the game.
  • The studio is positioning the third-person shooter around a more traditional multiplayer experience.

Ahead of Gears of War: E-Day’s upcoming release, The Coalition has finally shared details about the game’s multiplayer component, and it should land well with longtime fans of the franchise.

According to the studio’s official Gears of War multiplayer update, E-Day will not use a Battle Pass for its multiplayer experience.

Why it matters: Where Battle Passes were once all the rage, games are slowly beginning to move away from the trend. Gears of War is the latest series to do so.

The Coalition’s multiplayer update directly addresses progression and monetization concerns by saying Gears of War: E-Day will not include a Battle Pass.

For multiplayer, the studio wants fewer distractions between players and the core combat loop that made Gears multiplayer distinct. As per The Coalition, almost everything in the game can be attained simply by playing through it.

The team outlines “Coins” as part of this goal, a currency that can be earned for free. Gears of War: E-Day is focused on making the unlock process as fun as possible, so The Coalition has also adjusted earn rates for this currency to keep players coming back.

Nearly every single thing can be earned simply by playing the game. That means no Battle Pass, no gimmicks.

E-Day Comes In Just A Few More Months

Because Gears of War: E-Day is such a throwback to the PS3/Xbox 360 era, its design principles also hold up in the multiplayer component.

Xbox’s first-party team has fine-tuned the gameplay to be as enjoyable as possible while eliminating the grind that has plagued modern multiplayer titles for many years at this point.
