- With huge demand, we noticed that scammers are already trying to sell fake Ryzen 7 980X03D.
- Many independent sellers on marketplaces are selling heat spreaders only for scamming.
- The fake one has a color difference in the box, comes without a serial number, and can’t be warrantied.
Ryzen 7 9800X3D was released just over a week ago, and scammers are trying to scam people by selling a fake version of the processor in different marketplaces.
Many users quickly noticed the scam as many stores sell fake ones on eBay; therefore, buying from AMD stores on Amazon, Newegg, BestBuy, or Microcenter is your best bet.
Why it matters: This is not the first time such a thing has happened; fake Ryzen 7 7800x3D units were being sold in the past.
One Reddit post recently suggested that scammers sell Ryzen 7 9800X3D on many online platforms. The picture above shows that these processors come without the Ryzen logo and Serial number in a bit light colored box.
One of the purchasers also left a comment by confirming that it’s indeed happening and that many independent sellers on Facebook, eBay, and TikTok marketplaces are selling just heat spreaders in the box.
PSA: If you’re buying a CPU off a person, please watch out for fakes. There are hundreds of them floating around.
Still, if you are getting a deal from a private seller, try to look at the colour of the box, as the original one should be a bit darker, like the below picture from our review. Also, if the chip has a Ryzen logo and serial number, make sure to confirm the CPU serial marking in the window matches the box serial number.

Moreover, scammers seem to be using old boxes, as the current Ryzen 9800X3D comes in a bit of a rectangle-shaped box instead of a perfect square.
So, it’s best to look at these things if you plan to buy one. Recently, a burned Ryzen 7 9800X3D picture also surfaced on the internet, which worried many fans, but it was likely caused by the user’s mistake.
