Story Highlight
  • PlayStation has cancelled a lot of live service titles, and Deviation Games’ multiplayer sci-fi shooter was among them.
  • The studio was closed last year, but the concept art of its cancelled game has appeared online.
  • The images confirm that the new IP was a sci-fi, and it featured a lot of guns.

PlayStation hasn’t been very successful with the live service genre, as you can see what happened with Concord. The game was said to have cost $400 million to develop, and it was a total failure.

However, it wasn’t the only one that ended up being a failure. The gaming giant planned 12 live service titles, among which eight have already been cancelled. One of those eight titles was the shooter title from Deviation Games, whose concept art has appeared online

Why it matters: PlayStation has cancelled many live service games, but still doesn’t intend to back down and focus on just the single-player titles where it excels. This caused the gaming giant to lose a ton of money.

For those not in the know, Deviation Games was a new studio that was formed in 2020 by Call of Duty veterans. Just a year after founding the studio, it was announced that the developer was working on a PS5 exclusive game.

However, two years after the announcement, one of the insiders confirmed that the project had been cancelled by PlayStation. Now, as you may already be aware, last year, due to layoffs, Deviation Games was shut down, confirming that the game was indeed cancelled.

Some images from an artist’s portfolio who worked at the Deviation Games have been discovered. There is also a 2020 stamp on one of the files, so it would be fair to assume that these were early conceptual arts of the game

The images reveal that the game was set in a futuristic sci-fi theme, which makes sense given there were a few rumours regarding that too. Also, the majority of the images are just about the weapons that include pistols, rifles, and hand equipment named as Power Glove.

It should be noted that no official information regarding the game was revealed by the studio. Still, there were rumours that it would have been a multiplayer shooter, which would be a fair assumption as it was being developed by COD veterans.
