- The Deus Ex franchise is still very relevant today.
- However, a report claims that the developers may be working on a Remake of the original Deus Ex game.
- It has also been claimed that the game is being developed using Unreal Engine 5.
Deus Ex is still one of the most celebrated immersive sims to this day. Having gained popularity in the genre early on, this series remains relevant today despite the last entry arriving nearly eight years ago.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided from 2016 was well-received, but Eidos Montreal has yet to revisit this franchise since then. While fans remain curious about the IP’s future, a new leak claims that a remake of the original Deus Ex has begun development.
Why it matters: Remakes and Remasters are more popular than ever, encouraging more publishers to try their hand at this approach for their best franchises.
A new leak from 4chan states that this remake is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
While this sounds exciting, the leak also includes a concerning piece of information. According to the source, Eidos Montreal is not working on this project, and future games based on protagonist Adam Jensen have been scrapped.
Last year, we reported on a job listing that pointed to this new game. Reliable leakers had also confirmed that a new Deus Ex project was in the works from Eidos Montreal, but this no longer appears to be the case.
With Embracer Group currently going through various difficulties in its game development efforts, the publisher may have greenlit a remake as an easy source of revenue for its business.
Games like Splinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed 4, and Prince of Persia are set to receive a similar treatment, so it would not be shocking for Deus Ex to follow.
This information also appears to line up with a statement from Adam Jensen’s voice actor. Not too long ago, he stated that he was not involved in a new project despite the leaks.
While this could have pointed to a new voice actor, this report suggests that the project has been scrapped before proceeding further.
A recent Unreal Engine makeover for Deus Ex has already shown the potential for a remake. With revamped visuals and modern gameplay, the series could shine on new platforms.
This would also introduce new players to the series since it has been missing for the better part of the last decade.
