CDPR’s Cyberpunk 2077 was the most anticipated game of the year when it was first announced but had a disastrous launch, filled with bugs and whatnot.

The game’s condition at the launch was so bad that it was not even playable on consoles like PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, and as a result, Sony removed the game from their store. Everyone deserves a second chance; that’s what is happening with Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 is hitting new highs every day of this week and has broken the all-time peak steam concurrent players with 119,256 players surpassing critically acclaimed The Witcher 3 with 103,329 all-time high from the same studio. These numbers are the highest since January 2021. When the back clash started, the concurrent player count began to decline from the initial all-time high of 1,054,388 or 1 million concurrent players in December 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077

The credit for the comeback goes to Netflix. The recently released series; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, has contributed massively to the game’s revival. The series is based on the game and shows in-depth character development, which could be a reason for the players to revisit Night City to experience what they have seen in the series.

The Netflix Effect is real, and CDPR has already experimented with that with The Witcher; a similar effect was seen after The Witcher series on Netflix. The developers have also kept working on the game and fixed the bugs and drawbacks that caused the initial backlash.

The developers have also acknowledged this comeback and thanked the community for believing in them and giving them a second chance. The studio has recently announced the only expansion, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty for the game.

It will be interesting to see whether this newly developed love and revival of the game change their mind to add more DLCs to the game or not. Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
