Claws Of Awaji DLC Was Originally Part Of Base Assassin’s Creed Shadows, It’s Claimed

Releases In A Couple Of Months!

Story Highlight
  • Dataminer claims that Claws of Awaji was cut from the base Assassin’s Creed Shadow game to avoid a delay.
  • The DLC will pick up Naoe and Yasuke’s story, which felt unfinished with the base game’s ending.
  • Claws of Awaji will be free to users who pre-ordered the game, while others will need to purchase it separately.

Despite all odds, Assassin’s Creed Shadows launched successfully, becoming the series’ fastest entry to gain 3 million players. With the base game now out, Ubisoft is fully focused on the post-launch content.

The game’s first DLC, Claws of Awaji,” was announced as part of the pre-order bonus. A new dataminer has now revealed that the expansion was supposed to be part of the main game but was later cut off because the developers couldn’t finish that section within time.

Why it matters: Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed almost half a year before launching in March 2025. Still, Ubisoft selling the cut content as an expansion raises questions about the game’s lengthy development process.

SliderV2, a well-known Assassin’s Creed data miner who has already read the Claws of Awaji script, said the expansion feels like a part of the base game. He also expects the DLC to release within the next couple of months.

Fans have already voiced their frustration over Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ unfinished ending, making Claws of Awaji a likely conclusion to Naoe and Yasuke’s saga. The expansion might follow a similar approach to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which wrapped up Kassandra’s story with the Fate of Atlantis DLC.

Claws of Awaji will focus more on Naoe’s background, as the base game ends on a cliffhanger mentioning her mother. The DLC will take place on the island of Awaji, an entirely new region that promises around 10 hours of new content.

This DLC also introduces new elements, including a new weapon, as players search the island for a mysterious treasure while a mysterious enemy hunts them. The expansion will be free to all players who pre-ordered the game. Otherwise, it will be available to purchase separately when it releases within the next few months.
