One Of The Highest User Scores For The Platform!

Story Highlight
  • Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has a user score of 9.7 on Metacritic.
  • This makes it one of the highest user-rated games on the platform.
  • The game is already a massive success, despite launching alongside Oblivion Remastered, selling 500k copies within a day.

2025 has been a year of surprise game releases. Titles like Split Fiction and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 have surprised gamers, outselling AAA releases costing hundreds of millions. The latest addition to this catalogue is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The latest RPG, developed by Sandfall Interactive, a comparatively newer game studio, has made quite a buzz in the gaming industry. The game now has a near-perfect user score of 9.7 on Metacritic.

Why it matters: For a game that practically didn’t have that much hype before release, being this successful, launching right next to massive AAA releases like Oblivion Remastered is a great feat.

A user score of 9.7 is an incredible accomplishment for Sandfall Interactive, securing its place as one of the highest-rated games on Metacritic, potentially even the highest. The user score has continued to climb since its release and is now based on almost 800 reviews.

The only games that come close to Clair Obscur’s ratings are Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time with a user score of 9.1, Baldur’s Gate 3 at 9.2, and The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC with a 9.3 score.

While hundreds of other titles on Metacritic have solid user scores, there’s no definite way of checking the game with the highest user score. These titles mentioned above were the only closer ones; still, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 clears them by a huge margin.

Aside from user reviews, the critic score remains solid at a staggering 92, one point higher than Split Fiction. This makes the RPG a solid contender for the GOTY, which will probably be secured by one of these AA titles unless we see similar surprises like this later in 2025.

Despite being available on Game Pass, Clair Obscur Expedition sold a whopping 500k units within just a day, with a peak player count of 51k. The game currently has a solid 93% user rating on Steam.
