Considering all of its achievements, calling Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 a universal hit would be an understatement. The game has enamored critics and fans worldwide, becoming the only title in gaming history to surpass 500 Game of the Year wins and winning awards from Japan to Britain.
The RPG has already started inspiring similar games, showcasing the massive cultural impact it has had in just one year. Of course, Expedition 33 has also been a sales juggernaut, and Sandfall has just announced that the game has reached another massive milestone.
Why it matters: Expedition 33’s success gives the entire industry hope that creative projects made by even the smallest developers can find success in a saturated landscape.

In a post on X, Sandfall Interactive announced on the game’s first anniversary that Expedition 33 has now sold 8 million copies worldwide.
The developer stated that the game’s success still feels overwhelming for the team and thanked fans for supporting the RPG. Sandfall has also released a small update to commemorate this milestone and the game’s anniversary, giving the characters new haircuts while fixing some tiny bugs.
Expedition 33 had previously sold 5 million copies as of October 2025, after reaching 3.3 million shipments in its first 33 days. Besides the sales accolades, the title also achieved the gaming grand slam, winning Game of the Year at the “big 5” award ceremonies.

The RPG’s soundtrack has also been a massive hit among fans, taking over the charts ahead of Grammy winners thanks to its heartfelt nature. Considering all these accolades, a sequel seems like a no-brainer, and Sandfall has already teased that it has many ideas for the next game; we just have to wait and see.
