- Capcom is seemingly aiming for Resident Evil 9 to secure a 90+ score like the original RE4 20 years ago.
- A prominent Resident Evil insider claimed that Capcom is trying really hard to achieve that lofty score.
- Dusk Golem also previously claimed that it would be the most ambitious game in the whole franchise.
Resident Evil fans have been eating well for quite a few years now. A plethora of remakes in the franchise have revitalized it entirely, but they have also revealed a hole that has slowly expanded over the years. While the series is seeing a lot of activity, the mainline games—despite being excellent—have been unable to reach the same levels of success as the OG titles over the decades.
As per a new rumor, Capcom is now targeting to solve that dilemma by making Resident Evil 9 the star of the franchise. The studio is apparently aiming for RE9 to secure a 90+ score like the original Resident Evil 4 enjoyed 20 years ago.
Why it matters: The studio aiming for a 90+ score suggests it is doing everything to make Resident Evil 9 the most popular mainline entry in the franchise over its decades-spanning legacy.
The accredited Resident Evil insider, Dusk Golem, claimed on Twitter that Capcom is gunning hard to make RE9 as great as possible. In other words, we might have a game worthy of a 90+ Metacritic score on the horizon. Dusk also previously commented that the studio is aiming to make RE9 the most ambitious entry in the series.
“they haven’t had a mainline non-remake RE achieve a 90+ Metascore since RE4 OG 20 years ago.”
For those not in the know, RE9 is rumored for an early 2025 launch, with a reveal allegedly planned soon. It is also said to feature an open world and characters like Mark Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine.
All in all, it is best to take the following rumor with a pinch of salt. Capcom has yet to comment on its ambitions surrounding Resident Evil 9, as we barely know anything about it for now.
