Bend Studio Hiring for New Multiplayer Game Following Live Service Cancellation

No Word On A Days Gone Sequel!

Story Highlight
  • We found a job listing for Bend Studio that mentions that they’re working on an unannounced AAA multiplayer game.
  • Bend Studio continues on the live-service and multiplayer path despite numerous project cancellations recently.
  • They’ve canceled a live-service game, a Days Gone sequel, and a new Uncharted game in the last few years.

Bend Studio is perhaps the most underrated developer under PlayStation, repeatedly held back from reaching its true potential. It’s been 6 years since Days Gone was released, and since then, the studio’s portfolio has stagnated.

Over the past six years, the developer has worked on multiple unannounced projects, all of which were subsequently canceled. Now, Tech4Gamers has spotted that they’ve moved on to another new multiplayer project as they’re hiring a Creative Director for the game.

Why it matters: While fans yearn for a Days Gone sequel, Bend Studio and PlayStation have other plans. All these cancellations in the past were sufficient proof that the developer intended to make a single-player game.

Details On Bend Studio’s Next Project Revealed Via Job Listing

We discovered that Bend Studio is hiring for an unannounced AAA project they’re working on. Interestingly, one of the requirements for the position mentions experience with multiplayer games.

Experience with multiplayer game development and design.

This practically confirms that Bend Studio is making a multiplayer game next, but there aren’t any more noteworthy details mentioned in the listing.

It does make sense, considering this new project is likely to be in the early development stages, as it was only recently that the developer canceled its live-service game.

Previously, it was also revealed that Sony spent around $250 million on the same live-service project. Unfortunately, the title was canceled earlier this year, resulting in around 30% of the staff losing their jobs.

Bend Studio Said That PlayStation’s Portfolio Should Include 90% Single-Player Games

Aside from the live-service game, Bend Studio almost revived the Uncharted franchise with a new game. Furthermore, a Days Gone sequel was also shelved by the developer, which they stated was their own choice.

Anyhow, regarding the aforementioned multiplayer title, it is still years away, considering the developer has just begun work on the project. As such, don’t expect an announcement for at least a couple of years, that is, if they don’t end up canceling this one as well.

What are your expectations for the studio’s next game? Let us know in the comments below, or at the official Tech4Gamers Forums.
