Last Arkham Game Is Nearly A Decade Old!

The Batman Arkham series has been loved worldwide for its accurate rendition of Batman. Unlike previous Batman games, the franchise played to the character’s strengths, introducing mechanics that fit the character, which made the series popular.

Following the success of Batman Arkham City, Rocksteady Studios released the final Batman Arkham game in 2015. Batman Arkham Knight was released on June 23, and the game turns 8 today.

Why it matters: Batman has been one of the most well-known superhero characters worldwide, and Rocksteady Studio’s depiction of the superhero in games is widely accepted as the best one yet.

The game immediately performed well, becoming the fastest-selling game in the Batman Arkham series. It reached over 5 million units sold in just a few months.

The 2015 release served as the first Batman game for new hardware. Ditching the Xbox 360 and PS3 allowed Rocksteady Studios to vastly improve the visuals, making it one of the best-looking games of 2015.

Batman Arkham Knight innovated the existing formula by introducing the Batmobile for the first time. Players were free to drive the car in the open world, and it could also be used as a battle tank.

The Batmobile was satisfying to use but also received criticism for being overused. Since it was one of the major new introductions, Rocksteady Studios heavily integrated the Batmobile into nearly every part of the game.

Batman Arkham Knight received several awards, including Best Game and Best Action-Adventure Game. Unfortunately, fans have not seen a new Batman Arkham title since 2015.

However, Rocksteady Studios has moved away from Batman, with the studio claiming to be done with Batman in 2014. Still, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is set within the same universe. It is slated for release on February 2, 2024, and will also mark Kevin Conroy’s final performance as Batman.

Furthermore, the Batman Arkham trilogy is coming to the Nintendo Switch, including all DLCs for the three games. Eight years after its release, Batman Arkham Knight is widely available on consoles and PC. The game can be found as cheap as $5 on sales, and it is still an epic adventure worth trying.
