Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 Consoles Matches PC Ultra Settings

No Compromise Made In Visuals!

Baldur’s Gate 3 has joined another platform after its phenomenal run on the PC platform. Following its release, the game quickly claimed the top spot on Metacritic in 2023 and became a contender for Game of the Year.

With the RPG now available on PS5, more players than ever have played Larian Studios’ praiseworthy title. The studio has also done a great job ensuring the PS5 version delivers an experience similar to the PC release.

Digital Foundry has reviewed the game and deduced that Baldur’s Gate 3 on PS5 runs at nearly identical settings to the PC ultra graphical options.

Why it matters: The PS5 console is quite capable but can easily fall behind modern PCs with newer graphics cards and processors. Therefore, console owners will be glad to see parity between the RPG’s visuals.

The video highlights that the PS5 and PC produce a nearly identical image when the latter runs at maxed-out settings.

It also notes that Baldur’s Gate 3 shows little visual difference between the different presets on PC, making it an odd choice for the developers to target the highest graphical settings instead of somewhat lower settings for the best performance.

While subtle differences exist between PS5 and PC, the console version provides a great visual experience for the RPG. Larian Studios has also included two modes, with the quality mode running at native 1440p resolution.

On the other hand, the performance mode appears to be using AMD’s FSR 2 upscaling to produce a similar image from a lower resolution. Despite the lower resolution, the same graphical settings appear intact in this mode.

The game’s performance mode runs well in many parts, but intensive parts in the third act can lead to significant drops below 30FPS. This is also the case in quality mode, where the game shows an instance of drops below the 30FPS target.

However, the studio is constantly working to patch the game and reduce bugs, so this may be fixed in the future.

Following the PS5 release, Larian Studios has moved on to its next project, but a dedicated team is still supporting Baldur’s Gate 3. The studio is also targeting an Xbox release by November 2023, leading to more buzz for the game in the next few months.
