Baldur’s Gate 3 Beats Other RPGs With Whopping 100 Hours Average Playtime

Playtime Much Higher Than Skyrim & Elden Ring!

Story Highlight
  • Baldur’s Gate took home the most prestigious award last year at The Game Awards.
  • This title has become insanely famous since Steam users have an average of 100 hours in it.
  • This is higher than the average playtime of Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Starfield on Steam.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dominated the competition as the Game of the Year 2023 and took home the deserved award. Larian Studios has treated its fandom right, and the game’s success is proof of that.

The RPG has sold over 15 million units in less than a year. It also became the first title to win Game of the Year across all major events. However, its accolades don’t end here, as Baldur’s Gate 3 has an average playtime of 100 hours.

Why it matters: This figure is a testament to the content that Larian Studios packed in this RPG, making it a cut above everything else.

Larian Studios’ publishing director, Michael Douse, revealed on Twitter that the average playtime is much higher than anticipated. He thinks such numbers are wild and would like to meet the players pushing the average.

To this end, many in the comments section claim that these are just rookie numbers. Such players easily have over 500 or 1000 hours in the RPG. Some claim to have played over 500 hours without beating the main story.

Since Baldur’s Gate 3 has unparalleled replayability, the game stands out as a unique RPG. While it might sound odd for players to spend hundreds of hours without completing the main quest, this is nothing out of the ordinary for this RPG.

The average playtime, however, is surprising since an average this high isn’t normal at all.

This average playtime is even higher than what Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Starfield recorded. Elden Ring and Skyrim were released way before Baldur’s Gate 3, which makes this average even more surprising.

Larian Studios is currently working on two new IPs since the team won’t be making Baldur’s Gate 3. Also, the studio is aiming to make an ultimate RPG, which won’t be possible until PlayStation 6 is released.

If nothing else, fans can expect future releases to come with the same amount of content, offering hundreds of additional hours of content.
