- Assassin’s Creed Shadows manages just a 5.8 User Score on Metacritic, and 3.8 on PC.
- The biggest complaints are the characters being woke and the story underwhelming.
- The positive reviews praise the title for great visuals and improved combat.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows has the entire burden of Ubisoft on its back. The game received some excellent reviews from the critics scoring a decent 82 on Metacritic. However, the audience doesn’t seem to share the same passion as most reviews.
Ubisoft’s latest title just launched for the public and has amassed a very mediocre 5.8 User Score on Metacritic, with most complaints being around the story and the wokeness of the characters.
Why it matters: While it is generally doing well, if the game fails to hit big numbers, we could see Ubisoft losing its spot in the industry and filing for bankruptcy amid the still-falling stock values.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows debuted to a 5.8 User Score on Metacritic for the PS5, but things are even worse for the PC version as the game has an extremely low score of 3.8. This is despite the title having ‘Very Positive’ reviews on Steam.
Now, the hate in most of the reviews surrounds the incorrect portrayal of Japanese culture and characters. The biggest complaint is still the characters being woke, especially the protagonists, Yasuke and Naoe, and the story isn’t anything special.
Moreover, there are some parkour issues and bugs that hinder a bit of the experience. However, the rest of the reviews praise the breathtaking Japanese setting, especially when RTGI is enabled. In addition, the combat is a major step up as well.
Anyhow, Shadows has already managed over 1 million players in 24 hours. Additionally, it also hit a peak of over 47K players which is quite decent compared to the recent entries in the franchise. Read our review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows here.
