- AMD Radeon RX 9070 series based on RDNA 4 will have significantly higher availability at launch compared to the GeForce RTX 50 series.
- RDNA 4 stock at launch is expected to be around twice the amount of the GeForce RTX 4070 Super.
- There are concerns that the GeForce RTX 5070 will face similar supply issues.
The Radeon RX 9070 series based on RDNA 4 from AMD was just released. Although we are all familiar with the paper launch of GeForce RTX 50, it appears that at launch the RDNA 4 will have much more stock.
Why it matters: If the AMD RDNA 4 series is available in higher quantities than Nvidia’s RTX 50 series, it could lead to better accessibility for gamers and professionals seeking new hardware.
In a recent video posted by Moore’s Law is Dead, the availability of RDNA 4 cards will be far greater than what we have observed with Blackwell. Therefore, expect 3–10 times as many shipments of RDNA 4 cards as there would be of an RTX 5080.
He further adds that the Blackwell launch was so low that it was a paper launch. That’s why I say there were three to ten times as many cards as the GeForce RTX 5080 at launch.
Additionally, according to another source, this is around twice as much as the GeForce RTX 4070 Super had at launch, which was easy to obtain even though that card didn’t sell much the first week it was released.
Moore’s Law is Dead also thinks that the Blackwell supply issue will affect the launch of the GeForce RTX 5070. He has spoken with warehouse employees who have yet to get a single 5070 for delivery to stores like Best Buy and Amazon.
Everything considered AMD Radeon RX 9070 series might have a successful launch. However, it would depend on factors like pricing and availability. That said if AMD can deliver both we might finally have a GPU launch worth investing in.
