A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the most anticipated games of 2022. It was released on October 18, 2022, for PlayStation 5Xbox Series X|S via Game Pass and PC.

A Plague Tale: Requiem received positive reviews from media outlets and users due to impressive visuals, improvement in combat style from the previous game, and well-written story, which helped it get good consistent reviews on its launch. However, the game is a bit short as it takes 15-18 hours to beat this game.

If we talk about the game’s performance, previously, a Spanish gamer reported that the game does not reach the 60FPS mark, and the performance mode is also missing in PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The game is targeting 40FPS mode only if you have a 120Hz display.

But now it seems like some issues in the PC build too on Microsoft Store version of the game, as according to Gamegpu, A Plague Tale: Requiem performs better on GOG than on Microsoft Store. There is a 10-15% performance difference between the GOG and Microsoft versions of the game. Below you can find a list of comparisons between Microsoft and GOG;

  • RTX 3080 TI 12 GB: Microsoft Store = 86fps | GOG = 95fps
  • RX 6800XT 16 GB: Microsoft Store = 68fps | GOG = 79fps

It could be due to DRM protection, or unwanted overlays in Microsoft Store, though we are waiting for the developer to confirm the exact cause of this significant performance difference.

Furthermore, according to the source, the noticeable decrease in performance is not only limited to the graphics card and processor in the Microsoft store but there is also an increase in the consumption of RAM, which ultimately affects the performance of the game on the PC platform.

As the developers acknowledged the performance issue in the console and the post-update launch would fix the problems, we can expect the same for the Microsoft version of the game as the difference is noticeable. Hopefully, the issues will be resolved with a future update.
