Persona is a popular spin-off of Altus’ Megami Tensei series that includes various combat RPG games. It features a high school setting with a group of students as its main cast. The Persona series is built on a unique concept of self-exploration and the human psyche.
The series became very popular outside Japan when the first part of the spin-off series, ‘Revelations: Persona’ was released for North American players in 1996 on PlayStation. The series has had several games since then, with the latest mainline entry, ‘Persona 5,’ released in 2016.
Persona 5 Royal is a remastered version of Persona 5 and was released in 2020 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro. The popular series was missing from mainstream consoles like Xbox and Nintendo Switch. However, the popular JRPG was officially released for next-gen consoles, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 21, 2022.
The Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions also include the paid DLCs for free. The game’s arrival on modern platforms was marketed heavily with displays and advertising boards worldwide.

Good marketing and the game itself paid off, and Persona 5 Royal currently sits at 35,474 peak concurrent players in 24 hours on Steam with a 93.56% score based on 4,636 user reviews.
Not only are the fans loving it, but the game is also well-received by the critics, and at the time of writing this article, it is the highest-rated game on PC with a score of 97/100 by Metacritic.
These scores take Persona 5 Royal on top of the list above some classic highly rated games like Grand Theft Auto 5 ~96/100 and Half-Life 2 ~96/100.
Undoubtedly, Persona 5 Royal has made a significant impact outside the Japanese markets, selling over five million copies worldwide, including the base version of the game.
