Nvidia’s most anticipated graphics card line-up is here. Months of leaks and rumors have led up to this moment. Nvidia had announced that the long-awaited line-up would be revealed at GTC 2022, and the company has now officially unveiled the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards.

ADA Lovelace RTX 4080

While the xx80 GPU has traditionally led Nvidia’s graphics card line-ups at launch, Nvidia has gone a different route with the GeForce RTX 4080. The graphics card is now divided into two separate SKUs, with the lower-tier GPU replacing the popular xx70 graphics card in the launch cycle.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Specifications:

The GeForce RTX 4080 with 16 GB of GDDR6X memory at 22.5 Gbps coupled with a 256-bit interface gives us a bandwidth of 720 GB / s. This memory is linked with a GPU core that offers 9,728 CUDA Cores at a Base/Turbo frequency of 2.21 / 2.51 GHz.

The GeForce RTX 4080 16Gb will sell at $1,199 in November. Its TDP is 320W and can be squeezed to a maximum consumption of 516W (Nvidia recommends a minimum 750W PSU based on a PC configured with a Ryzen 9 5900X processor).

Next, we have a GeForce RTX 4080 with 12 GB of GDDR6X memory at 21 Gbps. In essence, this could have been called GeForce RTX 4070. This model has 7,680 CUDA Cores at a Base / Turbo frequency of 2.31 / 2.61 GHz with a 192-bit memory interface (vs. 256-bit) and a 504GB/s bandwidth.

The GeForce RTX 4080 12Gb will also go on sale in November at $899, promising to be faster than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti with a TDP of 285W and can be squeezed to the maximum power consumption of 366W (Nvidia recommends a minimum 700W PSU based-on a PC configured with a Ryzen 9 5900X processor.

Both graphics cards are powered via a PCIe Gen 5 connector (comes with an adapter with 3x 8-pin PCIe connectors).

Nvidia has also announced DLSS 3. This is the newest iteration of Nvidia’s AI-based upscaling technology. Nvidia promises huge gains that tower over the performance improvements provided by DLSS 2.0. 35 games will support DLSS 3 at launch, and the new iteration seems exclusive to RTX 4000 GPUs.

Additionally, the new graphics cards also feature improved ray-tracing. Nvidia has made significant jumps in ray-tracing performance with the previous generations, and Ada Lovelace is no exception.

Nvidia has finally pulled the curtains on the future of the gaming industry. The first launch of the upcoming graphics cards is less than a month away with the GeForce RTX 4090, and it looks like exciting times are ahead for the PC gaming industry.
