- GOG business manager says the company intends to bring back physical PC games.
- They say that there are many complications, but they eventually want it to happen.
- Issues include logistics, storage, and, more importantly, getting publishers’ approvals.
The debate over physical vs. digital releases centers on consoles; however, PC hasn’t had physical games in a very long time now. It ended around the early to mid-2010s, and most seem to have even forgotten this was once a thing.
GOG wants to change that, and says that it wants to bring back physical games on PC, and has been discussing this for years. They do note that there are many hurdles and it’ll be tough, but they eventually want to get there.
Why it matters: While the platform isn’t the most popular compared to the likes of Steam, GOG does get its flowers for being very pro-consumer, offering DRM-free gaming, and speaking up for digital ownership rights.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Marcin Paczynski, GOG’s senior business development manager, talked about how they have been discussing for years bringing back physical games to PC gaming, amid the challenges.
Ideally, my dream would be to be able to buy physical versions of those games on GOG. I really hope that at some point we will be able to do it. We’ll see.”
He says his ideal scenario would be for players to go to GOG and choose whether they want a physical copy, and it ships straight to them. He noted that the complications around it include logistics, storage, and publisher approvals.

Since the games will need to be approved by publishers to be developed into physical discs, this could be quite tricky. PC gaming hasn’t had discs for years, so publishers might hesitate to go back to them after so long.
Anyhow, if this eventually happens in the future, GOG will be highly praised. Despite the physical ratio being lower, they are still the safer route. But no disc drives in PCs, the logistics, and other things could make it tricky.
