- A majority of users cancel gaming subscription services due to their rising prices.
- They actually really like the services, but can’t afford them due to the prices.
- This leads to the cancellation of subscriptions like Game Pass, PS Plus, and others.
Subscription services used to provide great value for money to customers. Instead of spending $70 on a single game, you could go cheaper and subscribe to a service to get access to hundreds of titles, but that isn’t the case anymore.
While the value is still decent enough, they have become a lot more expensive over the years. A new report reveals that over 40% of users cancel services like Game Pass and PS Plus due to rising prices, despite liking them.
Why it matters: Subscription services have become more expensive, but overall inflation factors in, and with all the additional expenses people now have in their daily lives, it’s hard to make a budget for additional services.
According to Circana's Future of Insights for Video Games Consumer Survey, cost is becoming a stronger driver of US cancellations to Xbox Game Pass Essential, PS Plus Essential and Nintendo Switch Online. Over 40% of those canceling in the US cite cost as a primary driver, higher than seen in Q1.

Circana’s Future of Insights for Video Games Consumer Survey reveals that a huge majority of users in the US don’t cancel services like Game Pass, PS Plus, and Nintendo Online because they just don’t like them.
In fact, 40% of those who cancel them really like the services but are only forced to cancel because of the rising prices. For context, Game Pass has risen to $30 a month, before being reduced to $23, which is still a lot.

Many people subscribe because of the value proposition, but end up never using the services because of the overwhelming number of titles. All these things lead to cancellation despite them having no issues.
