Lies of P was a major win for Neowiz and Round8 Studio, giving Souls-like fans a polished title that stood out in a crowded genre. Now, the team is working on a sequel that aims to live up to what many consider the best Souls-like of all time.
However, because Lies of P was such a hit, the studio is already feeling the pressure when working on the sequel.
Why it matters: 2023 was a crowded year for Souls-likes, but Lies of P was able to make a name for itself in the genre. Many have high hopes for the sequel.
Nough Studio, the development team responsible for Lies of P within Round8 Studios, has shared a new documentary discussing the franchise and its future.
As per Narrative Director Kwon Byungsoo, the development of the first title served as a blank canvas for the team. However, for the sequel, everyone is building on an already existing template.
Art Lead Cha Byungjun says that this means many people within the team feel pressurized to deliver, but the studio’s is attempting to return to the same mindset it had when Lies of P was developed.
There’s definitely pressure, but we’re trying to set that aside and return to the mindset we had while making Lies of P.

Director Choi Juwon makes a similar point, nothing that the team is certainly struggling with the idea of living up to expectations. However, he also adds that this pressure has only added to Nough Studios’ drive and passion.
When I look at the team now, everyone is thinking about how we can do even better. Our drive to push ourselves further has only grown stronger.
