Resident Evil Requiem has surely proven to be one of the most popular titles to launch in the decades since the series began. A huge 70% of PS5 and PC players who bought the game have already finished it, and many are already looking for what Capcom has in store next.
Rumors have suggested that the studio is working on Code Veronica and Zero remakes next, with the latter being expected to release first in early 2028. A new technical leak now reveals that Capcom is even developing an online co-op mode for the prequel remake.
Why it matters: The online co-op mode in Resident Evil Zero could prove to be a breath of fresh air, giving people the chance to play the exhilarating prequel together. However, its exact implementation in the gameplay still remains a mystery.
This leak comes from insider @amr66405 on X, who clarifies that programming codes were spotted for a co-op mode codenamed Chambers in the Capcom ID network leak. This online co-op mode will let players enjoy the gameplay together as Billy and Rebecca.
This could be achieved via a split-screen system that would require syncing to let both players experience a cohesive campaign together, something similar to the story-driven co-op, A Way Out. Meaning, a player might have to wait for the other to catch up to proceed.
Regardless, Resident Evil Zero would still retain a single-player mode for those who prefer going solo, with the ability to switch between both protagonists as in the original version.
The Resident Evil Zero remake is also expected to expand on the game’s storyline with better visuals and other improvements, if other full-fledged remakes in the series are anything to go by.
