Steam Sees Over 19K Game Releases This Year, Sets A New Record

7,098 Of These Games Have Less Than 10 User Reviews.

Story Highlight
  • New data from SteamDB reveals that Steam enjoyed the launch of over 19k games this year, setting a new record.
  • However, 7098 of these titles have fewer than 10 reviews, with about 2.2k having zero user reviews.
  • The number of games with 100 reviews also saw a decline this year compared to 2024.

Steam appeared when PC gaming was just beginning to take a proper shape, eventually becoming a global giant ecosystem for gamers. It continues to set new records, proving that its dominion on the market is still growing to this day.

New statistics now reveal that Steam has broken yet another record, seeing the launch of over 19k games this year. For context, the last year saw 553 fewer games launching on the store. But the new milestone also casts an equally large shadow on the platform.

Why it matters: Valve’s control on PC gaming has been increasingly successful even as competition rises. Another metric shows Steam is growing compared to other storefronts that are struggling or failing to keep up.

Steam
Steam saw the launch of over 19K games this year alone.

Steam tracker SteamDB reveals that almost half of the games launched this year—7,098 to be exact so far—had fewer than 10 reviews. It shows that they were either slop entries or failed to catch enough recognition to be successful.

About 2.2k of the overall titles have zero user reviews, while 5.2k have fewer than 50 reviews. As the pattern suggests, the number of games significantly drops as the number of user reviews increases in the statistics.

Compared to last year, there’s an increase in the number of entries with fewer than 10 reviews and a decrease in the number of games with over 100 reviews this year. There’s a similar worrying trend in games with over 500 reviews.

Steam New Record
Steam has been setting new records left and right over the last few years.

So, while the new record in the number of game releases is a great achievement for Steam, the pattern of more games having fewer reviews is concerning for the future of developers and the store.

On a side note, Steam generated over $16.2 billion in sales this year, with likely more revenue added since our report from last month.

Do you think Steam will continue to see an increase in game releases, or will this figure eventually decline in the future? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
