- Take-Two’s latest report reveals that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million units.
- It overtakes Mario Kart 8 as the 4th best-selling video game of all time.
- It is nearing the third position but is quite behind the top 2; GTA 5 and Minecraft.
Red Dead Redemption 2 leaves a mark on the player forever. It is one of those genre-defining titles in the industry that have stood the test of time and still manage to feel fresh, and it has also achieved a huge sales milestone.
In its latest report, Take-Two Interactive revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold 79 million copies, becoming the 4th best-selling game of all time, only behind Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Wii Sports.
Why it matters: Rockstar’s cowboy game deserves all the praise that it gets, and the sales numbers reflect that. To date, it is considered the benchmark of open-world and storytelling and will continue to hold its place.

Take-Two’s Quarterly Report has provided some big news today, including the unfortunate delay of GTA 6. However, it does bring some good news too, like this new milestone that Red Dead Redemption 2 has surpassed.
It was previously behind Mario Kart 8/ Deluxe, which had sold over 78 million copies, but now it is even nearing the 3rd place currently occupied by Wii Racing. Red Dead 2 needs just 3 million copies more to break past the numbers.

For Take-Two and Rockstar, the list would be really amusing as they now have 2 titles in the top 4 best-selling games of all time, namely GTA 5, with a whopping 220 million units and Red Dead 2 with 79 million.
This reflects on how big an impact Take-Two has on the industry and how it plans to do the same with the release of GTA 6. In other news, the company has also revealed continued work on the next BioShock game.
