- Saints Row lead developer believes the reboot was a terrible idea. He wants to return for a new game.
- He is asking Embracer Group to let him work on the franchise with the OG team.
- He wants to take the series back to the 70s for a prequel.
The Saints Row franchise took a massive plunge after the third installment, and the reboot only made things worse by taking the series in the wrong direction. Many fans have been asking for an authentic Saints Row experience for a long time.
The original Saints Row design director, Chris Stockman, shares the same sentiment as the fans, claiming he found the reboot to be a terrible idea. He is now asking the IP owner, Embracer Group, to contact him for a new game so he can turn the series around.
Why it matters: Chris Stockman found the reboot to be a terrible idea and now wants to save the IP by developing a new and authentic mainline title.
Speaking to Esports Insider, Chris Stockman claims he would have taken the reboot back to the 70s and done a prequel instead that explores the origin of the first gang. This is exactly what the director wants to do for the next Saints Row game if he gets a chance.
[Embracer Group], if you’re listening to this, contact me. Let’s go. I can bring much of the old band back together who worked on Saints Row 1. I could turn that IP around with a decent budget.
He also describes turning it into a heavily stylized VR open-world game with the prequel setting. Chris argues the game would look almost as good as the original in VR with Quest 4’s technology while reviving the series and bringing it back to its roots.
They don’t even have to fund it. I could get other outside people to fund it. I could turn the franchise around. I know I could.
Chris wants to go the VR route to ensure the new Saints Row doesn’t try to compete with GTA but rather becomes the GTA of VR open-world titles instead.
