Sony Set To Host PlayStation Showcase Next Week, Reliable Insider Claims

Marvel's Wolverine, Venom, And More First-Party Games Expected!

Story Highlight
  • Reliable insider NateTheHate states that PlayStation has an event planned for next week.
  • If past rumors are correct, the event could be a PlayStation Showcase returning after a two-year hiatus.
  • Expect Marvel’s Wolverine, Venom, God of War spin-off, and other games at the event.

While Xbox went guns blazing this year with a multitude of game announcements, PlayStation was left in the dust, having also missed the summer showcase.

However, Team Blue may have secretly been cooking behind the scenes. A reliable insider now states that a PlayStation Showcase/State of Play is happening next week.

Why it matters: The PS5’s first-party catalog is looking eerily dry for the latter part of its generation. Reports have suggested multiple titles in development, but the gaming giant has yet to confirm their existence, which would happen with a game showcase event.

Next PlayStation Event Is Right Around The Corner

On Social Media, while replying to a fan who asked if Sony has a State of Play/Showcase event planned soon enough, insider NateTheHate responded with “Next week.”

It is currently unclear whether the upcoming event will be a State of Play or a full Showcase; however, recent reports indicate that Sony is preparing for a PlayStation Showcase after a two-year hiatus.

Rightfully so, fans can expect a larger event rather than a State of Play focused on big first-party IPs.

In terms of announcements, Marvel’s Wolverine could finally get a proper release date during the event, in addition to a reveal for the Venom spin-off game. The previously rumored God of War Metroidvania is also expected to be revealed then.

Furthermore, we can expect more news on Bungie’s Marathon, FairGame$, and Ghost of Yotei.

If fans are lucky, Naughty Dog could also present gameplay footage for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet alongside more details on the mysterious sci-fi project.

Other than that, expect a couple more reveals for unannounced projects. Hopefully, the PS5’s latter part of its run will be richer in terms of its first-party catalog, since the last two years have been relatively dry.
