Story Highlight
  • According to a GitHub branch update, Unreal Engine 5.7 may be released soon.
  • An announcement could likely take place at the upcoming Unreal Fest in Stockholm.
  • Unreal Engine 5.7 will include previously shown features from the Witcher 4 Tech Demo.

CDPR, one of the biggest developers in the industry right now, has partnered with Epic Games to utilize Unreal Engine 5 for their future projects as well as enhance the game engine.

As such, a Witcher 4 Tech Demo was presented recently, highlighting the latest Unreal Engine 5.6. However, some of the features, as shown in the demo, were slated for Unreal Engine 5.7, which is now expected to be released soon.

Why it matters: Unreal Engine 5 is the most widespread engine used in the industry right now. As notorious as it is for its stutters and poor performance, its advancement would be a benefit for the industry as a whole.

Currently, an Unreal Engine 5.7 Branch is already available on GitHub, with the main branch at 5.8. As such, Unreal Engine 5.7 may be nearing its release, possibly by the end of this month.

An Unreal Fest will take place in Stockholm from 22 September to 24 September. Unreal Engine 5.7 could likely be showcased at that event.

While it’s just been 3 months since version 5.6 was released, it was delayed from its initial April release, which is why 5.7 is being showcased so quickly.

We already have a glimpse of what the next version of the engine will bring. The Witcher 4 Tech Demo showcased on Unreal Engine 5.6 included features like Nanite Foliage, which was slated to be released for Unreal Engine 5.7.

Nanite Foliage is a memory-efficient way to achieve high-density foliage. Moreover, there will be additional features present in the latest version that we’ll get to see perhaps later this month.

In other news, CDPR has been working hard behind the scenes to eliminate the infamous Unreal Engine 5 stutters, and so far, they’ve been doing a commendable job. A Fast-Geometry Streaming Plug-in was already released in the latest version, which helps with fast streaming of assets, therefore reducing stutters.
