- Battlefield 6 requires players to turn on secure boot to run the game.
- Most players have bricked their PCs in doing so, because it can be a complex task.
- Despite requiring secure boot and featuring a kernel-level anti-cheat, Battlefield 6 is plagued by cheaters.
The first week of Battlefield 6 Beta is over, and it’s safe to say that Battlefield is back. Most previews have been quite positive thus far, with the game already outpacing Call of Duty for the most concurrent players on Steam.
That said, the game is far from perfect. For starters, Battlefield 6 requires players to turn on secure boot in order to play. Turning on secure boot isn’t that simple, however, as most players have already bricked their PCs in an attempt to do so.
Why it matters: Turning on secure boot is quite complex (here’s our guide to do so), and most PC gamers aren’t familiar with doing so. As a result, they’re now bearing the cost.
Wanted to play battlefield 6, bricked my computer.

Many players are reporting on Reddit, Steam, and X that they’ve corrupted their BIOS. Not all motherboards come with a BIOS recovery option, so if yours doesn’t have one, you may have to say goodbye to the motherboard.
The BIOS chip can be removed and reprogrammed, but this process is quite extensive to just make your PC unusable again.
Battlefield 6 already has a kernel-level anti-cheat installed, and a secure boot requirement on top is quite unnecessary. On top of that, the game is still plagued with cheaters, despite being up for only a few days and having all these countermeasures.
The kernel-level anti-cheat also poses problems of its own. For some reason, it’s interfering with Valorant’s anti-cheat and asking players to uninstall Valorant, quite literally.
Secure boot requirements are becoming increasingly common in video games. While Valorant was one of the major games to enable this requirement, Battlefield 6 has become another notable one, and this year’s Call of Duty will also follow suit.
