After the failure of Battlefield 2042, EA seemingly recognized that their next game is the last shot at securing a safe future for the franchise. The studios involved with the FPS have gone back to the drawing board to create the best FPS possible.
Now, EA executives are claiming that Battlefield 6 is directly inspired by the best works of the series, Battlefield 3 and 4. In other words, the game’s modern setting and quality will match or surpass the standard that fans have loved in the past.
Why it matters: Battlefield 6 draws inspiration from the series’ best titles, aiming to build on their legacy and rival Call of Duty.
In a GamesRadar interview, VP Christian Grass said Battlefield 3 and 4 are the franchise’s peak, inspiring creative director Thomas Andersson to craft a spiritual successor.
Battlefield 3 and 4. […] We love those games. It’s sort of, you know, the pinnacle, maybe, of Battlefield.
We can already see Battlefield 6 returning to the series’ roots by focusing on destruction and the series’ popular class system, a move that has already satisfied many fans. Therefore, we will get to experience classes like Engineer, Support, and Recon like the glory days.
We wanted to go modern. We haven’t been modern for a long time, so that is kind of part of it.
Battlefield 6 is aiming to stay more grounded by having realistic skins, unlike Call of Duty. Additionally, the game has ditched the mandatory EA app requirement for Steam players.
The game will have an open beta from August 9 to 10 and August 14 to 17, with EA expecting to release the FPS on October 10 for PC and current-gen consoles.
