The God of War TV Show, produced by Prime Video, was announced in 2022. The show had a different team earlier, but towards the end of last year, it underwent a shakeup, which led to a new team taking over. New details have now been revealed.
Showrunner Ronald D. Moore recently revealed some key information about the God of War show, revealing it will adapt the Norse era from the 2018 reboot of the game. Moreover, it is scheduled to begin filming in 2026, although scripts are still being written.
Why it matters: This confirms that the show won’t be adapting the older games set in the Greek era, instead opting to skip directly to the latter stages of Kratos’ life.
Talking at the San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore discussed the upcoming God of War show. He said that filming will begin in 2026, with Season 2 already greenlit. The show takes place during the Norse era, with a focus on Atreus and Kratos.
God of War director Cory Barlog is also involved with the title. It has also been confirmed that it won’t copy the game frame by frame, but will instead adapt the game, with the relationship between the father and son at its central point.
Moore recently admitted that he isn’t a big gamer. While he has tried to play the game, he just can’t get a hold of the controls. Fortunately, Barlog will be there for assistance so that we can hope for a faithful adaptation.
