Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws remains one of the most disappointing releases in recent memory. The publisher previously noted that the game had underperformed and recently pointed to the larger state of Star Wars as one potential reason behind the performance.
In the aftermath, it became clear that Star Wars Outlaws had failed to become the big hit Ubisoft wanted. A new report also states that a sequel to the game has now been cancelled.
Why it matters: Ubisoft is famous for its long-running franchises, but it seems the publisher is moving away from this strategy.
According to Tom Henderson, Ubisoft had planned and begun work on a Star Wars Outlaws sequel. This project was part of the studio’s big ambitions to continue a Star Wars open-world gaming universe, but things did not go according to plan.
They also recently cancelled Star Wars Outlaws 2.

The insider noted that the game had not entered production and was very early in development. Because Star Wars Outlaws was just released last year and is still receiving updates, the game was likely in the planning stage.
However, Ubisoft went through its fair share of struggles in 2024 and is currently undergoing a significant restructuring. This turmoil seems to have sealed the fate of Star Wars Outlaws 2, in addition to the disappointing commercial performance.
Tom Henderson also discussed other Ubisoft cancellations, including a smaller-scale Far Cry project built on Unreal Engine. All of these games were scrapped early in development.
