Bend Studios May Have Suffered Worse Than We Thought!

Story Highlight
  • The LinkedIn profile of Bend Studio game designer Jacob Fieth suggests that Sony may have canceled multiple projects from the team.
  • The studio has worked on ‘multiple canceled/unannounced projects’ over the years, but it has not hinted at any other entry yet.
  • Following the cancellation of the live-service game, Bend was allegedly spinning up a new project and got hit with massive layoffs.

Sony had an awakening and killed multiple live-service games that were in development earlier this year. Bend Studio’s AAA live-service game also got canned, and since then, reports have suggested that the developers were starting a new game.

The studio was also hit by at least two layoffs following the cancellation, with the second one affecting 40 staff members and 30% of the total developers.

Now, the LinkedIn profile of Bend Studio game designer Jacob Fieth reveals that Sony or Bend executives may have also internally canceled a plethora of other projects.

Why it matters: It appears that the situation at Bend Studio might be more dire if the rising speculations are to be believed. The unexpected layoffs affecting 30% of staff a few months ago also massively harmed the morale of the company.

The profile of Bend’s game designer suggests multiple games have been canceled over the years.

The LinkedIn profile lists that the game designer has worked on ‘multiple canceled/unannounced projects’ since 2019.

After Days Gone, Bend Studio has not yet released another original game, besides Days Gone Remastered, and only a single new, unknown title was rumored to be starting development a few months ago.

Based on these tidbits, the most likely outcome indicates that Sony or Bend executives may have canceled some other in-development projects over the years. It’s unclear what these unannounced games could have been since no official details exist regarding them.

Days Gone 2 Bend Studio
The Days Gone franchise was originally meant to be a trilogy by the studio.

Bend was also planning on making Days Gone a trilogy before those prospects were shut down entirely.

Regardless, the future of the company looks quite worrisome because it’s unclear what became of the new game that was starting development before the layoffs.

Do you think Bend Studio suffering layoffs means another unannounced game was silently canned, or are these rumors too unrealistic to consider? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
