- Helldivers 2 remains PlayStation’s biggest live-service success one year later.
- The game is now heading to Xbox Series S|X in August.
- Nixxes has confirmed its involvement in the port, and the game will support cross-play between all platforms.
Helldivers 2 was one of PlayStation’s biggest games last year and continues to be the pinnacle of live-service development for the gaming giant. In fact, interest in the title was so high last year that many fans began rallying for an Xbox port.
Over a year later, their wishes have been granted. Arrowhead has officially confirmed an Xbox Series S|X release for Helldivers 2.
Why it matters: Helldivers 2 was published by PlayStation, and Sony owns the IP. Therefore, this exclusive series heading to Xbox is a major deal.
According to director Mikael Eriksson, Helldivers 2 is heading to Xbox Series S|X to fulfill a longtime fan request. The game officially releases on these consoles in August, and even more is planned for players across all platforms.
Helldivers 2 is now available to pre-order in two different editions on these consoles. The game originally released on February 8, 2024, and will officially make its Xbox Series S|X debut on August 26.
Cross-play will also be supported with this release, enabling Xbox and PlayStation gamers to team up in the fight for Super Earth following the game’s recent resurgence.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this announcement is the fact that this game was published by PlayStation. The Xbox Series S|X port has also been developed by Nixxes, the team famous for PlayStation’s PC releases.
Although this release is a one-off for now, it could lead to a trend of third-party ports from Nixxes, positioning PlayStation as a major player on Xbox platforms.
