- Flydegi Vader 4 Pro is a great budget alternative to the Flydegi Apex 4, with a similar 1000Hz polling rate, adjustable tension sticks, and instant triggers.
- There are two extra buttons at the front side, and you can manually adjust the tension on the sticks without any over-tensioning issue.
- There’s a 0% mean circle error, and the processing unit is also the same as the Apex 4, but there are no screens or grips on this controller.
When discussing controllers and which ones are the best, nothing can beat aftermarket controllers. While there are numerous options available on the market for these controllers, one stands out as the top choice for most people: the Flydegi Vader 4 Pro.
Why The Vader 4 Pro Over Other Controllers?
Firstly, it is compared to its elder sibling, the Flydegi Apex 4, which is considered the best controller ever. However, in many ways, it surpasses that, and we’ll discuss this later throughout the article. But first, let’s take a look at what this controller is all about.
Manual Tension Adjustment
One of the most prominent features of this controller that stands out immediately as you look at it is the adjustable tension joysticks. With this, you can tighten or loosen the stick according to your preference.
Many people choose to keep their left stick at the minimum tension so they can move it around freely, but keep the tension on the right stick halfway through so they have precise control over their aim.
No More Damaging The Controller
While the Flydegi Apex 4 also had a similar mechanism, it was slightly different. In that controller, you had to remove the cover and then manually screw the knob to adjust the tension, whereas the Vader 4 Pro features a rotatable ring around the joysticks.
Not only does it help in easily adjusting the tension without any hassle, but it also solves a big issue that the Apex 4 had. On that controller, people used to screw the tension so tightly that it caused joystick issues.
However, with the Vader 4 Pro, there are hard stops that prevent people from exceeding a certain point, thereby avoiding damage to the joystick itself. The sticks also have a perfect 0% mean, with only 0.1% error when rotated fully in a circle.
Near Perfect Circle Mean
With this, it feels that the consistent speed of aim doesn’t change when you go diagonally with the sticks in any game. If the outer bounds of the circle are slightly wider where the corners of the square are, then your aim is gonna be inconsistent.
If you’re wondering why some controller players tend to be better than keyboard and mouse players, this might be the reason why, and it is usually found in aftermarket controllers like the Vader 4 Pro.
Instant Mouse-Click Triggers
While this is a Hall effect controller, it doesn’t feature Hall effect triggers. Instead, Flydegi went on to include smooth triggers with mouse clicks, which aren’t just a gimmick but actually instant triggers with the same sounds as from a mouse.
Buttons
Apart from the same extra back buttons, you also get two extra buttons in the front just below the four buttons, which are customizable. The buttons are slightly lower than the standard buttons, which also makes them easier to reach with your thumb.
For the back buttons, you typically experience a slight input delay, which is why many professional players prefer the claw grip and use the front buttons instead. However, with this controller, the delay isn’t quite as pronounced as with some other controllers.
Additionally, the extra buttons on the front side allow for more buttons to be pressed than the standard four. However, for a claw grip, I’ve noticed that it isn’t as effective, as you’ve to move a bit lower to press them.
Material & RGB
The material used is plastic, which is done to reduce costs; however, it may feel a bit cheap to some people. Since the plastic may feel loose or uncomfortable to grip, it is recommended that you use grip tape for this purpose. The same tape used on the Vader 3 can also be applied here.
To cut costs, this control does not have any screens. Instead, there’s an appealing RGB lining that forms a V shape, denoting the initials of this controller’s name. A screen on a controller is typically more of a gimmick, so it isn’t of much importance for most people.
Polling Rate & Device Support
It is a fully 1000Hz device, and the latency test is identical to that of the Apex 4, so the processing unit inside this controller is more or less the same as the one in the Apex 4. You can also connect it via a dongle, Bluetooth, or the standard wired connection with a Type-C port.
Verdict
The best part about the Vader 4 Pro is the price. It only costs $80, which is half of the Apex 4, which costs $160. And some online retailers are selling it for way below that as well, which makes it one of the best controllers for value.
