- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold 1 million copies within 3 days of launch.
- The figures are strictly sales and exclude Game Pass users.
- The game is a solid GOTY contender, already having one of the highest user ratings on Metacritic.
2025 has been one of the best years for RPGs, especially April, which saw the launch of Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a title now turning out to be a solid GOTY contender.
Drawing influence from JRPGS, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 boasts some of the best storytelling elements in an RPG, complemented by an amazing soundtrack and visuals. The title has now sold 1 million copies within just 3 days of its launch, marking an impressive feat for developer Sandfall Interactive.
Why it matters: For an AA game to sell a million copies this fast is amazing. Moreover, it’s also a debut project for the developer studio, implying that they have a great future ahead of them.
This figure strictly refers to sales and units shipped to retailers, which means that Game Pass players do not count here. Being a Day One release on the subscription service, hundreds of thousands of players must have tuned in from that end, too.
The game sold 500k units on release day and an additional 500k over the next two days.
Aside from sales, the game’s rating also speaks volumes. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 now has one of the highest user scores on Metacritic, standing at 9.7. Its critic scores aren’t that far behind either, standing at 9.1 on the platform.
Moreover, the game also reached a peak player count of 51k on its launch day, and by the weekend, the numbers had jumped even higher. The biggest 24-hour peak today was 98k players.
