The Game Has 20x The Players It Had Before The 2.0 Patch.

Story Highlight
  • Lords of the Fallen saw a massive surge in players due to a new update last week.
  • The game now has over 10K concurrent players on Steam, rising from a mere 500.
  • Its success is helping CI Games break even, according to the CEO.

Lords of the Fallen had challenges to navigate two years ago, and despite several hurdles, it turned out to be a decent RPG and grabbed a hefty piece of the pie by making $100 million. As it turns out, the game is still making waves 2 years after release, thanks to a new update.

Why it matters: AAA games from smaller studios enjoying success are a good sign for the gaming industry.

Recently, Lords of the Fallen received a massive 2.0 update that overhauled numerous aspects of the game. And, because of the large-scale changes, the RPG from Hexworks hit a peak of 11,647 on Steam in the last 24 hours, which is over 20 times more than the 544 users it had before the update came out.

The CEO of publisher CI Games, Marek Tyminski, also noticed this trend and posted on X about the increase in players, thanking the fans for sticking by the game even 18 months after launch, saying it meant everything to him and the team.

Tyminski also stated that due to this new upheaval in sales, the studio will break even in the near future. Hence, Lords of the Fallen has again helped its developers out of a difficult spot in a very challenging industry climate.

Lords of the Fallen
A sequel to Lords of the Fallen is reportedly releasing next year.

The game also generated significant revenue upon its initial release, selling a million copies in just 10 days, despite receiving numerous negative reviews on Steam. Furthermore, Lords of the Fallen has generated over $60 million in revenue as of last year, and this number is expected to increase further with the update and the forthcoming sequel.
