While fans have been demanding a new The Last of Us game for quite some time now, a potential threequel for the series remains unlikely with the developer Naughty Dog shifting its focus towards other IPs.
The studio is currently developing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which won’t be released until after 2026. However, it seems that Naughty Dog may be secretly working on another title that has been in development for 3 years.
Why it matters: Naughty Dog is considered one of the best studios under PlayStation. It’s great to see the developers being utilized to their full potential.
This news comes from insider DanielRPK, who published this report on his Patreon. According to Daniel, the said game is being directed by Shaun Escayg, a well-known developer within PlayStation.
Shaun has previously worked on titles like Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, The Last of Us Part 1, and the infamous Marvel’s Avengers. His next venture is with a familiar developer studio.
The insider clarified that the title mentioned is not The Last Of Us Part 3. Naughty Dog has repeatedly reiterated that a threequel may not happen.
This could very well be a brand-new Uncharted game, as such an entry was previously suggested to be in the works, starring Cassie Drake as the series’ new lead. Anyhow, the identity of this title remains unknown for now.
