Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 Ti has already garnered concerns among gamers due to potential stock problems. The graphics card, despite its solid MSRP, is expected to cost around $1000 on the market, with very few units readily available.
Ahead of tomorrow’s release, reviews of the RTX 5070 Ti have also been published. Unfortunately, these reviews bring more bad news than good for Nvidia since the latest Blackwell offering is just over 10% faster than its predecessor at 4K.
Why it matters: These results continue the theme of disappointing generational uplifts with the Blackwell gaming lineup.
Testing from Hardware Unboxed shows that the RTX 5070 Ti achieves an average of 79FPS at 4K. This result puts it around 11% ahead of the RTX 4070 Ti Super across a selection of games like The Last of Us Part 1, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and more.
The graphics card falls just short of the RTX 4080’s average at this resolution, but the ray-tracing results are even more interesting. At the same resolution, testing with ray tracing reduces the GPU’s lead over the RTX 4070 Ti Super to just 6%.
Meanwhile, the RTX 4080 is about 9% faster than the RTX 5070 Ti when ray tracing is used at 4K. Looking at the 1440p results, the latest GPU is around 7% faster than the RTX 4070 Ti Super. It also boasts a small 12% lead over the RTX 4070 Ti at this resolution.
Because of these results, many have concluded that Nvidia has simply made a souped-up version of the RTX 4070 Ti Super.
These results also mean the upcoming Radeon RX 9070 XT will trade blows with the RTX 5070 Ti. Depending on AMD’s pricing, team Red’s offering may prove to be the better option.
As the Radeon RX 9070 XT release draws nearer, it will be interesting to see whether AMD’s strategy changes in any way after these disappointing results. Because supply shortages pose such a major problem at the moment, it may be best to wait and see how things play out before making the final decision.
