In a new internal memo reported by Bloomberg, senior human resources executive Candi Castleberry claims Amazon is ‘winding down outdated programs and materials.’

This change comes as part of a review of hundreds of initiatives. Now, Amazon will focus on programs that bring more benefits to the company.

Rather than have individual groups build programs, we are focusing on programs with proven outcomes — and we also aim to foster a more truly inclusive culture.

Amazon’s ‘Our Position’ webpage also eliminated a specific DEI discussion earlier on Friday regarding Equity for Black people and LGBTQ+ rights, as reported by The Information. Now, the detailed section has been reduced to a single collapsed paragraph. 

Additionally, Meta confirmed on Friday that many of its established diversity and inclusion policies are disbanding in favor of a more profitable and grounded approach.

All in all, it’s unclear how far firms like Meta and Amazon are willing to cut DEI programs in favor of performance and efficiency. So, take the internal memo with a grain of salt.
