Less Power Consumption But Way Better Performance!

Story Highlight
  • Recent tests have found that the PlayStation 5 Pro only consumes as much power as the PS5 Slim model.
  • The new model hogs less power to run but delivers significantly higher performance than the base PS5.
  • Multiple games were tested on the PS5 Pro and the Slim model to test and compare their power consumption.

The PlayStation 5 Pro refresh has been on everyone’s radar. While some were taken aback by its exorbitant price, others were more impressed by the power it promised to deliver. Sony eventually clarified that the Pro model is only meant for a few gamers who want the best from this generation. However, buying the console might not have been a bad choice

New testing has revealed that the PlayStation 5 Pro only consumes as much power as the Slim model. Another major—yet obvious—plus was that it simultaneously delivers significantly higher game performance.

Why it matters: The PlayStation 5 Pro model takes only as much power as the Slim refresh while simultaneously outputting higher performance and visual quality in games.

In a new video, Digital Foundry compared the power consumption of the PS5 Pro model with other variants, the base and the slim versions. Multiple games were used to determine the results, including Elden Ring and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Elden Ring does not take full advantage of the PS5 Pro features, while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 utilizes all the resources offered by the mid-gen refresh. However, in both games using Quality mode, it was discovered that the Pro model only took as much power as the Slim version.

The PlayStation 5 Slim model used during the testing reportedly took more power than expected, suggesting it might have had some issues. However, the PS5 Pro’s power consumption remains quite impressive compared to the base PS5 model.
