PS5 Pro Pricing Didn’t Have A Negative Effect; Aimed For Hardcore Users, Says Sony President

PS5 Pro Isn't For Everyone!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation 5 Pro has received a lot of heat for its $700 price tag.
  • However, many famous personalities have defended the console, saying it isn’t that expensive.
  • Sony President Hiroki Totoki recently said that the price tag has not had any negative effect as the console is aimed at hardcore users.

Ever since the PS5 Pro was revealed, fans have criticized it because of its price tag. Almost every fan has been expecting a lot from this console despite it just being a mid-gen refresh.

The expectations might be coming from the price tag, but overall, the console seems to have some redeeming qualities. Many famous personalities in the gaming industry have defended its price and the president of Sony is the latest one to join this trend.

He thinks the pro variant’s pricing has had no negative effect yet, and it is aimed at hardcore users.

Why it matters: The $700 price tag (which is a lot higher in different states) raised many eyebrows, as it doesn’t even include the disk drive.

The PlayStation 5 Pro Is Aimed At The Hardcore Gamers

The President, CFO, and COO of Sony, Hiroki Totoki, revealed during the live stream after the latest financial earnings call that PS5 Pro pricing didn’t have any negative effect.

In terms of the pricing, many people made different comments on that, but pricing on PS5 Pro has not had a negative impact, I don’t think.

He further revealed that ‘hardcore users are the target of this hardware.’ This seems fair, given the price tag, as not everyone would be willing to buy it. Many games have already been enhanced on the Pro, but it should be noted that none of them are new titles

PlayStation 6’s release is not close, so for users who want to experience next-gen gaming via console, the Pro might be their best bet. The PSSR upscaling has received a lot of praise and seems like the main aspect of the console.

The technology will be further improved, so games that can’t run at 60FPS on this variant might be able to do so in the future. However, that might not be the case for games that are bound by the CPU.

Nonetheless, the PS5 Pro isn’t made to satisfy the majority of PlayStation fandom. What do you think of Totoki’s perspective on the pricing backlash? Do you think he is right? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums
