Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra Features The First Meeting Between Cap America And Black Panther, With Great Source Material And Uncharted's Writer Working On It, It Has The Potential To Be The Next Big Marvel Release!

Story Highlight
  • Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is a game full of potential based on the source material and the team working on it.
  • Amy Hennig, a writer for Uncharted and Legacy of Kain games, is leading the work on the game.
  • With rich source material and great gameplay, the game could be the next big Marvel hit we look forward to.

Marvel games have been a huge hit or miss for the last few years. The company has been experimenting a lot, giving the rights to their characters to several studios. However, Insomniac is the only one who has been able to hit the nail so far.

There is currently a massive number of Marvel games in development. These include an Iron Man game by EA, Black Panther, Blade, and a multiplayer Marvel Rivals game. However, for me, the most interesting project is Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

Being developed by Skydance New Media, the game’s initial trailer caught me by surprise. Firstly, the setting is very interesting, and so is the team working on the project. If things go right, it has tons of potential

Why it matters: Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra originates from a comic book where Captain America and Black Panther meet for the first time, so the source material is quite rich.

Rich Source Material With Interesting Characters

At first glance, the game supports familiar characters like Captain America and Black Panther. However, while Cap is the Steve Rogers, Black Panther isn’t the T’Challa we were accustomed to seeing on screen, courtesy of the late Chadwick Boseman.

As the name indicates, the game is set in 1943 during the events of World War 2. So, the Black Panther we see here is Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather. The name would be new for most, but comic book readers will instantly recognize the name.

The first meeting between Cap and Black Panther happens during World War 2, as depicted in 2010’s Captain America/Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers. The two don’t start too well initially but eventually get on good terms.

The first trailer for the game showed awesome graphics, but a gameplay trailer is still missing at this point

I won’t delve too deep into the details of the comic, but let’s discuss the storyline. Red Skull and Baron von Strucker are the main antagonists of the comic and attempt to invade Wakanda to capture their Vibranium resources.

Cap and Black Panther partner to stop them and save Wakanda. Now, the game won’t be taking the exact same route as it has a very different setting. It will be set in France, as both protagonists try to stop Hydra from capturing a dangerous artifact.

A great storyline combined with the great graphics we see from the first trailer and decent gameplay can add up to a wonderful title. Insomniac’s Spider-Man games are great, but even with them, the story isn’t the most impressive part; Marvel 1943 can change that.

Marvel 1943: Rise Of Hydra Has A Great Team Working On It

Developers are the core of every game. They are the ones who can take a game to a massive high with all the work they put in towards a game. I am glad that Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra has a great team working on it.

The Uncharted franchise is one of my favorites out there. So, it was wonderful to find out that none other than Amy Hennig is working on the title. Hennig has been involved in writing the original Uncharted trilogy and even worked a bit on Uncharted 4 before leaving Naughty Dog.

Hennig has a brilliant directory of work. Having worked in the industry from the early 80s and having projects like Uncharted and Legacy of Kain under her belt, Marvel 1943 seems to be in good hands

What impresses me most about Hennig’s writing is how she expresses mere video game characters so brilliantly that they feel like real people. Nathan Drake, Chloe Frazer, Sullivan, and others are the characters that are close to my heart.

If she can replicate the same magic with Marvel 1943, the game is bound to be a great hit. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen the gameplay yet, so there’s no way to tell how the final graphics and gameplay will turn out.

But, considering we know the writing is in good hands if Skydance can match the gameplay and optimize the game well, Marvel fans will be in for a treat. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is scheduled for 2025, and I can’t wait to see more soon
