Demand For Battlefield Still Strong Despite Recent Failures, Says EA

EA Still Confident About Future of Battlefield!

Story Highlight
  • EA believes there are still plenty of opportunities for Battlefield.
  • The publisher states that demand and interest from the fans remain high.
  • Despite recent setbacks, the company is optimistic about the franchise.

The Battlefield series has had a rocky history over the last decade. While titles like Battlefield 4 and 1 are remembered fondly, many still lament the fact that Battlefield 5 and 2042 failed to live up to their full potential.

Having recently wrapped up development on its latest release, DICE has shifted focus to the next major title. This new entry will return to the IP’s roots, and EA is confident about this approach ahead of the release.

Why it matters: Battlefield used to be a very unique part of the first-person shooter genre due to its large-scale warfare. While this strength is no longer exclusive to the series today, EA is hopeful that it can still deliver an exciting experience for fans.

Vince Zampella Is Overlooking The Series Today

During the latest Investor Day presentation, EA was asked about the opportunities for Battlefield’s future relative to prior entries.

The latest entry is said to be the most ambitious and involves four studios. EA President Laura Miele states that this series has never been more full of potential, particularly due to the current trends in gaming.

Interest and demand remains strong, and we have an incredibly strong leadership team.

This response is interesting since fans have been let down by DICE and EA twice in a row. Prior to the release of Battlefield 2042, many were excited to see the series move to a near-future setting.

This was also the first mainline title to move away from historical World War settings in a while, but a poor release combined with a slow update rollout ultimately disappointed fans.

While Battlefield 2042 did make notable improvements later on and saw a surge in player counts as a result, it left fans skeptical about the future.

The Next Title Will Focus On The IP’s Core Tenets

Still, EA is very confident about the future. Laura Miele highlighted that Battlefield has found itself at the center of modern gaming trends, those being more freedom and large-scale battles in first-person shooters.

This is something the franchise has always excelled at, giving the publisher a huge opportunity. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things turn out, especially since the studio plans to give players a taste of the next entry with a community test next year.
