PS5 Pro Should Not Cost Over $600 For Digital Edition, Fan Poll Concludes

Shaping Up To Be Sony's Most Expensive Console Ever!

Story Highlight
  • Fans have discussed the PS5 Pro’s pricing structure in a new poll.
  • Over half of the voters expect the console to cost at least $600.
  • They argue that PlayStation has only increased prices this generation, so the mid-gen refresh is unlikely to be cheap.

The PS5 Pro will finally show up for the first time soon. Mark Cerny is set to host a 10-minute technical presentation, and leaks confirm that PlayStation will unveil the much-anticipated mid-gen refresh tomorrow.

Ahead of this reveal, there has been plenty of chatter about an all-time high price for this console. Fans have also discussed this price, with most suggesting that Sony will charge more than $500 for the Digital Edition.

Why it matters: PlayStation has kept its prices lower than expected since it debuted the original PS3 model for an egregious MSRP of $500-600 in 2006. It seems the gaming giant will soon return to a similar pricing structure.

PS5 Pro Price Discussion Poll via Resetera

Nearly 1,000 gamers on Resetera recently voted on the price of the PS5 Pro. Sony’s pricing of the PS4 Pro suggests that the console should start from $550, which would mark a $100 price uplift over the current Digital Edition.

However, past leaks have suggested otherwise. Fans believe the console will start from $600, with nearly half of the voters picking this option. Around 10% even foresee the PS5 Pro Digital Edition costing as much as $700.

Even the $600 starting price would be quite steep for a digital-only console. The gaming giant will likely charge an additional $100 for the Disc Edition, potentially pushing the price to $700 for those who want the full package.

Fans argue that Sony has already raised console prices multiple times this generation across various regions. They believe that the gaming giant will be able to justify such high prices since the mid-gen refresh will target a niche audience.

As such, fans believe those interested in getting the best performance on consoles would be fine with paying at least $600.

While the actual price is still anybody’s guess, Sony’s recent moves don’t seem encouraging for those hoping to buy the PS5 Pro at a decent price. Earlier today, the gaming giant increased the cost of its DualSense controllers by $5, setting a new precedent for its accessories.

Anyhow, fans won’t have to wait too long for all the details. Mark Cerny’s technical presentation is less than 24 hours away, and official details about the console should follow shortly after this reveal.
