1080p and RTX 3060 Are Match Made In Heaven!

Story Highlight
  • Currently, the best resolution you can readily get for monitors is 4K.
  • However, Steam’s official monthly survey reveals that gamers still prefer 1080p.
  • The official survey from Steam also revealed that the majority of gamers still use RTX 3060 and 16GB RAM.

In this era, the highest resolution used for gaming is 4K. While 8K is already a thing, it is barely used in the mainstream world. Moreover, the PPI at 8K is so high that it’s hard to benefit from this resolution without a massive screen.

As such, 4K gaming is typically the best when looking at monitors. However, you might be surprised to know that the best resolution isn’t close to being the most popular. Steam’s official survey reveals that the majority of users still play at 1080p.

Why it matters: In this era, most developers are aiming for ultra-realistic graphics, but this makes new games more intensive than ever. Therefore, playing at lower resolutions can be beneficial to performance.

The official Steam hardware and software survey reveals that the majority of Steam users are using Windows 10 as their operating system, 16 GB RAM, RTX 3060, and 1080p as their primary display resolution.

Looking at the other display resolutions, 1440p accounts for 20% of the users, while 4K accounts for just 3.65% of the Steam user base. In comparison, a whopping 57.28% of users still rely on 1080p.

This might not be that surprising to most PC games, as 1080p is still a solid resolution. Not to mention, it gives you the best performance for new games. So, if you have a 24-inch monitor, what else do you need?

The RTX 3060 is also very well suited to this resolution. They are basically a match made in heaven, so this combination being the most popular makes a lot of sense.

Moreover, Steam’s biggest games are esports titles like CS2 and Dota 2. Therefore, none of these games require you to play at a high resolution for the best experience. Shooters are also best played at high frame rates, so fans prefer to use 1080p for the best results.

Many gamers believe that getting 60FPS at 1080p is way better than 30FPS at 4K. We also agree with this notion since frame rates hold more value than resolution for us. So, even in this era, 1080p is getting the job done for many people.
