Many might be aware at this point that Concord, an upcoming PlayStation-exclusive 5v5 shooter, is in a difficult spot. Many fans have highly criticized the game and claimed it to be generic.
There aren’t many who are excited about this release, as better ones are already available on the market. Reactions to the recent beta have also been underwhelming, with Concord peaking at about 1,200 Steam players.
Making matters worse, the beta’s player count went as low as 50 users on the final day.
Why it matters: There are similar games to Concord that are available for free, so the $40 price tag and poor gameplay have been a major hurdle for PlayStation’s upcoming first-person shooter.
On Steam, the beta currently has 16 users, but this player count already fell below 50 on the final day. The last beta on Steam was not free, but it seems the first-person shooter has been unable to retain the few thousand players it initially had.
Concord is also very close to its release. The game arrives in late August, giving it just over a month to convince players. For now, these efforts seem to have been in vain, with Steam players quickly abandoning the beta.
While PlayStation likely has a bigger audience on the PS5, we expect a similar general trend. It seems the hero shooter lacks replayability, failing to keep players engaged in the PvP formula.
Fans have criticized the game for its generic style and poor gunplay. Others disagree with the $40 price since this market already has many free-to-play options that are arguably much better.
Concord will also likely be full of microtransactions and battle passes by the time it releases. All in all, the situation does not look great for now. Another beta is scheduled to arrive tomorrow, giving everyone the chance to play the hero shooter.
However, PlayStation won’t make it available to every Steam region. According to Firewalk, the best parts of the game are yet to come, but this may not necessarily be enough.
