After three decades of relevance, the Crash Bandicoot series has become a staple of the platforming games genre. Its latest entry came out four years ago, and fans have been waiting for a new mainline title since then.
While Toys For Bob has recently released games like Crash Team Rumble, a developer suggests that Crash Bandicoot 5 won’t come out anytime soon. In fact, this developer states that the project has been completely cancelled.
Why it matters: The Crash franchise has always been held in high regard for its unique approach to platforming gameplay. It’s also one of the few platforming games to have stood the test of time.
One of the designers from Crash Bandicoot 4 has recently discussed Toys For Bob’s latest cancellation.
He stated that the team worked hard on this game for about three years, but it was permanently shut down a few days ago. According to the developer, all attempts to save the project have now failed.
Later on, the developer confirmed that Toys For Bob was working on Crash Bandicoot 5, stating that fans would eventually learn about the game that never came to be.
Some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was.

While all hope seems lost for Crash Bandicoot, reports state that the team is currently focusing on the Spyro series. Following the Activision merger, Toys For Bob went independent, but it has partnered with Microsoft for the next game.
Nicholas Kole also discussed Project Dragon, another game he was involved in. While Toys For Bob was not working on this game, he stated that it had also been cancelled.
Nonetheless, it’s disappointing that Crash Bandicoot won’t return anytime soon.
While a fifth mainline game could still happen eventually, the series was on quite an impressive winning spree after the release of the N.Sane Trilogy. It’s a shame, then, that three years of work on a new game went to waste.
