Potential Hurdle For All Future Sony PC Ports?

Story Highlight
  • Ghost of Tsushima is confirmed to require a PlayStation account for multiplayer gameplay.
  • Following this confirmation, third-party sellers are refunding the game.
  • It remains to be seen if Steam will follow with similar measures.

Update: The title has now been officially delisted from Steam in PSN unsupported regions

Sony is pushing strongly to integrate PlayStation with their new releases on PC. The gaming giant got into a huge controversy after forcing users to log in to PlayStation accounts for Helldivers 2.

Unfortunately, Ghost of Tsushima will come with the same restriction for its multiplayer. While the PC port is still being sold on Steam, third-party sellers have begun to offer refunds.

Why it matters: Third-party sellers are quite popular on PC, and many gamers rely on them for better deals for new releases. This could ultimately harm a part of Sony’s sales on the platform.

Green Man Gaming is issuing refunds for Ghost of Tsushima in unsupported regions.

According to reports, Green Man Gaming has refunded a user after citing PlayStation account limitations as the main reason.

The seller claims that part of Ghost of Tsushima’s content is inaccessible in this particular region, forcing a refund. Green Man Gaming has also confirmed that it won’t sell the PC port in regions with PlayStation support moving forward.

Following the report, fans are wondering whether Steam purchases will be refunded in the coming days. There is also concern about other third-party sellers following suit since PlayStation games are sold on stores like GOG and Humble.

Ghost of Tsushima
Ghost of Tsushima was one of the most anticipated PlayStation PC ports.

PlayStation PC ports have sold quite well over the years. Ghost of Tsushima, especially, was shaping up to be a major release, becoming one of Steam’s biggest sellers at the time of announcement.

However, this instance could lead to another controversy.

Anyhow, Sony seems to have caused quite a lot of chaos in an attempt to integrate PlayStation accounts into its PC ports. This is certainly going to be a common theme with all future ports, so we hope the gaming giant is able to reach a seamless solution for upcoming games.
